  1. Tell us about your pet

    Download the app, create your profile and add your pets: feeding routines, medication, behaviour and anything else your sitter should know.

  2. Choose your sitter

    Pick your dates and browse approved sitters near you. Watch their introduction videos, read reviews from other pet owners, then book and pay in the app.

  3. Relax while you're away

    Once your sitter accepts, they check in and out through the app, and you can keep in touch with messages and photos throughout your booking.

How sitters join Vacay Sitters

Sitters apply through the Vacay for Sitters app and complete these steps before they can accept bookings.

  1. Application and profile

    Sitters tell us about their experience with pets, their skills and the areas they can work in.

  2. Identity documents

    They submit an identity document, proof of address and a selfie for our team to review.

  3. Introduction video and quiz

    They record a short introduction video for their profile and complete a knowledge quiz.

  4. Onboarding call

    They're invited to a video call with our team.

  5. Review and approval

    Our team reviews each application before a sitter can accept bookings. After every booking, pet owners can rate their sitter.

Verification helps build trust, but no screening process can guarantee how someone will behave. We recommend chatting with your sitter in the app and arranging a meet-and-greet before your booking.

Frequently asked questions

What is in-home pet sitting?

A sitter looks after your pets in your own home while you're away, following the care instructions you provide. Pet sitting bookings on Vacay Sitters are overnight stays, booked per night.

Where is Vacay Sitters available?

We currently operate in Cape Town and surrounding areas. The app shows the sitters available in your area.

How are sitters vetted?

Sitters submit an identity document, proof of address, a selfie and an introduction video, complete a quiz and an onboarding call, and are reviewed by our team before they can accept bookings. Read how sitters join.

How do I book and pay?

Everything happens in the Vacay Sitters app. You'll see the price before you pay, and payment is made when you book.

Can I meet my sitter before the booking?

We recommend it. You can message sitters in the app, and a short meet-and-greet before your booking helps your sitter and your pets get to know each other.

What if I need to cancel?

Refunds depend on how far ahead of the start date you cancel. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details.

What happens in an emergency?

Add an emergency contact to your pet's care notes in the app, and share your vet's details with your sitter. In an emergency, your sitter may take reasonable steps to protect your pet's health or safety, including seeking veterinary care. Vacay Sitters does not provide pet, liability or property insurance for bookings. See our Terms & Conditions.
